Fund Raising
It takes a considerable
amount of money to run the band program. While the band department receives
a certain amount of money from the school board budget, most of this money
is earmarked for certain expenditures which must be paid each year, such as
band music and drill and maintenance on instruments. Please be aware
though, this budgeted money is most frequently inadequate to cover the
expenses for which it is allotted.
The
band must pay for transportation to and from every away game and band
competition. Each year the Band Boosters help with band expenses,
including music for field shows and concerts, transportation to all events
(at a cost of over $4200 for the 2007-2008 school year),
equipment bus costs, band supplies, Color Guard & Flag supplies,
Junior/Senior Clinic costs, fees to enter competitions, fees for summer band
camp, uniform cleaning, instrument purchases, instrument repair, and the
annual dinner for graduating seniors with band director Mike Thomas.
Therefore, fund raising is an important service of the Band Boosters.
We would not have a band
program without the money Band Boosters raises.
Currently we have six major fund raising efforts.
1. Concession Stands (Our BIGGEST money maker)
The Band Boosters are responsible for the concession stands
at every home football and basketball game. Running the stands requires many
volunteers. Please
sign up to help operate the concession stands at least two times for
football plus two times for basketball season.
2. Scrip (The EASIEST way to earn money for your
account)
The
beauty of this fundraiser is that no one is asked to purchase anything they
would not ordinarily purchase, and they do not pay any more than they would
ordinarily pay. If everyone will participate, it could be very
beneficial for the band and for the students.
How it works:
Ingles and Food City very generously furnish a fundraising tool. The Band Boosters purchase
gift cards from
Food City and Ingles
at a discount (5% ). Band members purchase these gift cards at face
value. The 5% discount is really a donation from Ingles and Food City
to the band.
Scrip is
an easy way for band students and their families to
accrue a credit for band camp and other expenses. Students receive half of
the 5% discount they earn for the band. For example, if a family
purchases $400 in cards in a month, the band has earned $20.
The student receives credit of $10 and the band
receives $10. Over eight months, the student receives a credit for
$80 and has helped the band earn $80.
You can easily pay for band camp with this program. If
you buy gasoline at Food City you earn credits to your account very
quickly. The Food City in Jefferson City, Morristown on Buffalo Trail and Strawberry Plains have gas
stations. Click "Pay Inside", fill up and take your card to the person in the kiosk.
Mrs. Lisa Harris, 581-4494, has the cards and you can get them from her
after school.
3. Sonic
Coupon Cards

This will be a new venture for
the Band Boosters this year. Sonic will donate the coupon cards to
the Boosters. We will sell them for $5 each and keep 100% of the sales!
Our local Sonic
manager, Jeff Burns, has been overwhelmingly generous to our
organization. Hopefully, by selling these cards, we can drum up even
more business for him.
4. Pancake Breakfast (Everyone enjoys this - diners
and workers)
Each spring, we hold a pancake
breakfast. Students sell
tickets and earn a portion of their sales as a credit to cover their band
expenses. Students also work as hosts and waiters and to bus
tables at the breakfast. Student workers receive credit by dividing the
profits left after the students have been assigned their credit for ticket
sales and the cost of the breakfast is covered. This is a fundraiser to help
students and their families with band expenses. The band does not make a
profit from this fundraiser.
5. Coke Case Sales
Our final fund raising event for the year is a Coke case sale.
Blank order forms will be available on the Forms page of this website. Forms
will also be on the information podium located in the Band room. You may
make additional copies of the order form as needed.
Students will receive $2.00 credit in
their band account for each case sold. This credit can be used for band
related expenses, such as band camp or band trips for which there is a fee.
6. Coupon Books
We are not selling the coupon books this year. Home Depot has dropped
out pf the program and too
many businesses in our area have refused to honor the coupons.
